You will receive a Good or Better gold-plated 1883 nickel - 1883 was the first year of the Liberty Head Nickel - and immediately started a minor crime wave. The first year of this famous nickel had a large V (for Five) on the reverse, but the Mint left off the word "Cents". Con artist discovered that the coin could be gold-plated and passed off for a $5.00 gold piece. The Mint discovered its error and later that year corrected the coin and added the word "Cents" on the reverse.
The most famous con-artist was named Josh Tatum. He would go to a store and buy a 5 cent item with his gold-plated nickel. If the clerk noticed that it was a nickel, Tatum simply left with his purchase. But there were times he left with $4.95 in change. Josh Tatum inspired the phrase "I was just joshing."
